About

Hey & AssalamuAllaikum!

If you found yourself in my about section, it’s probably because you’re trying to find out more about me, my qualifications and if I’m worth investing your time & money with.

I am a registered social worker, psychotherapist. What that means is that I’ve finished a degree in Social Work and that I’ve indicated to my college (OCSWSSW) that I practice psychotherapy. I have both a Bachelors as well as Masters of Social Work along with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour.

Both during and following my formal schooling I’ve trained and use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). All of that is basically just mumbo jumbo that means I have a wide range of training I can draw on that can help me find the right tools to help you feel better!

The thoughts inside our head telling us we’re not good enough are louder than our rational brain. Sometimes life events have changed our brain chemistry and the way we think to the negative. But therapy is a way to straighten out all the wires and clean up house to help us live a better life. I’d love to hear from you and discuss how I can help today.

My Outlook

My experience and struggles with my own mental health, family issues,  and lived experiences are what brought me to the field of Social Work and Psychotherapy. As someone who understands the struggle with mental health, I strive to work with others to navigate life’s stressors and allow them to experience a life worth living. There is no end point in that journey and navigating the puzzle that is our mind. It is a never ending process of trial and error.

I approach every session, and every client as an individual. Everyone has different wants and needs from their therapist, so I want to hear from you what it is you are looking for. Some people come in knowing exactly what they want and others we have to spend a little more time understanding our expectations from each other.

There are a wide range of tools and therapeutic modalities at my disposal and there is not a one size fits  all for everyone. If you are interested in the theoretical background of different therapies and what I use and why, I’d love to book a consultation with you to dicuss.

One of the biggest reasons I became a social worker is because Islam is a big part of my identity, I am both spiritual and religious and it is integrated into various aspects of my personal life. When accessing therapy it was hard not being able to find a therapist who understood my religious values and teaching and the cultural background I come from. For that reason, I do provide Islamically Integrated Therapy at my clients’ request. If clients are not Muslim, or do not wish to discuss Islamic topics, I can lend an ear and an understanding of collectivist cultures and religious upbringings that are sometimes hard to come by
